The project

Our shared mission is to create a queer-feminist community house in Skala Eressos, a village on the island of Lesbos, that holds deep connections to lesbian* herstories. Our project stands in opposition to the ongoing gentrification and land commodification occurring on the island. By working alongside the Mietshäuser Syndikat (MHS), at the moment we are striving to purchase and preserve a property in Skala Eressos, to ensure it is taken off the speculative real estate market. This project aims to pave the way for more collaborations of the Mietshäuser Syndikat with initiatives in Greece.

To make this vision a reality, we will be launching a crowdfunding campaign to raise the necessary funds for the property purchase. We therefore invite you to stay tuned and join this collective effort to create a permanent lesbian* community house in Skala Eressos.

The SRC house will be a space for queer-feminist activities, including events, workshops, film screenings, and archival work, all focused on researching and celebrating the herstories of the local lesbian* community. Our ultimate goal is to establish a long-lasting, sustainable structure that serves as a base for continued and radical queer-feminist presence, research, art making, and resistance on the island.
By creating this space, we are reclaiming an area for the lesbian* community to be used for organizing cultural events, and the preservation of local lesbian* herstories. The house will also provide a space for education, study groups, and gatherings that contribute to the ongoing discourse on queer-feminist herstories, as well as the planning of future actions. In this way, we are not only protecting physical space, but also ensuring that the stories, struggles, and achievements of the local lesbian* community that we are part of, are honored and passed on to future generations.
